A book to share

If i have to name one book that influences me the most, I will say “Oh, the places you’ll go” is the book that influenced me a lot. It was when i graduated from elementary school that i first encountered the book. It was a graduation present from my elder sister. At first, i had no interest in reading the book, I didn’t even like it because it’s a book of Dr.Seuss, i thought it’s too immature for a guy like me. After being persuaded by my sister, i tried to read it, and much to my surprise, it’s actually a great book. In the book, not only does it tell you about all the strange and funny experiences that you may encounter in life, but some of the not so pleasant difficulties you may face in your life. The major reason that i love this book is because it’s like a  guide in my life. Whenever i am depressed or lost in life, i will take out this book and read it all over again, by doing so , it sort of comforts me and gives me the courage to walk through all the obstacles in life. The special feature of this book is that though the words and sentences in it are simple and easy to understand, there are  deep meanings behind every single word.

If I shall recommend this book to another person, i’ll recommend it to my younger sister who just graduated from junior high school. She’s now fifteen and is about to become a high school student. Being an experienced high school student and a brother of hers, I hope that by showing her this book, she can realize that we won’t always be successful in life sometimes we may fall and it’s okay. I hope that this book can influence her as much as it did to me, and guide her way through her hopeful life.

The missing bag

  My name is Jack. I am currently the youngest millionaire in Taiwan. If you’re wondering how I obtained all these fortunes, well, it’s an interesting story. Last Sunday I was working on a school project about the daily life of normal citizens. In order to complete this project, I entered a noodle shop and decided to interview the person whoever sits next to me. “A bowl of egg noodles please.” Said the mysterious man with a trembling voice, he seemed to in a flurry. Despite all his odd behaviors, I still asked him if I could interview him for my project. He gave me a furious look and scolded me, as if I did something terribly wrong. After he refused me, I changed my mind and decided to interview the shop owner of the restaurant. While interviewing the shop owner, I couldn’t help but keep looking at the mysterious guy sitting next to me, his huge bag and weird sunglasses made me even more curious. While the interview was kind of boring, I sketched down how the man looked on my note book for fun. After the man finished his meal, he left the restaurant, not knowing that his bag was left behind. I noticed the bag next to me, and I couldn’t resist but opened the bag. To my surprise, the bag was full of money. I took the bag of money, and decided to hand it to the police instantly. I ran into the mysterious man, he started chasing me and yelling that he’s going to attack me. I didn’t know what to do, so I started running. As I ran into the police station, the man followed me in, and as soon as the police officers saw the man, they took him down and put him in the jail. It turned out that the mysterious man was actually a thief that had been wanted for a while.

  As the money was given to its real owner, the owner decided to give half of the money to me as a reward, And that’s how I became the youngest millionaire in Taiwan.

The smart phone trouble

  Last Sunday I went shopping with my daughter to buy her her first cell phone. While I was trying to find a phone that suits her, she rushed to me and told me that she wanted the new smart phone. Though I tried to talk to her into buying other cheaper phones, she insisted that the smart phone was what she wanted. Being persuaded by her adorable eyes, I just couldn’t refuse her request. After buying her her cell phone everything was fine, she was very happy with her cell phone, and I thought to myself, “as long as she’s happy, I’m happy.” Everything was good until this Wednesday morning. I got a call from my daughter’s teacher and she told me that my daughter was playing with her new cell phone during class so she took it from her. After hearing the news, I had a talk with my daughter and found out that she has been playing with her phone during class ever since I bought it for her. To punish her, she was grounded for the next two weeks, and to prevent her from being addicted to her phone, I threw the phone away.

  I made a wrong decision by buying my daughter the things that she wants. Turns out that fulfilling all your children’s wishes will not always do them good, sometimes it may even harm them. From this experience I learned that I shouldn’t spoil my kids, and making them think that they can have anything that they ever wanted. Instead, I should teach them to be more mature and let them realize that they can’t always have they’re way in life.

An encounter at a masquerade

  Jack and Jill are a lovely couple, but before they got together, there was an interesting story. They first met at a masquerade, and soon fell in love with each other. Since they didn’t know each other’s name, it’s impossible for one to find the other. After the party, Jack spent days to figure out who was the stunning young lady that danced with him at the party.Just as he was going to give up, as miracle happened. Jack accidentally ran into Jill. They went to have cup of coffee and exchanged their names and numbers; afterwards Jack walked her back to her place.

  Now that Jack knew where Jill lives, he was not afraid to show his determination to chase her. He went to the building where Jill lives and sang love songs to her everyday . Tough Jack went there everyday, Jill never opened her window and talk to him. One day, the window of the apartment opened while Jack was singing, but the person that talked to him wasn’t Jill, it was a grumpy old man. “Shut up! you’re here every night, and it’s driving me crazy!” It turns out that Jack has been singing to the wrong person since the first day. The neighbor next to the grumpy old man couldn’t bear the noise of the man and Jack arguing, and opened her window to see what was wrong. Surprisingly, the one who lives next to the old man turned out to be Jill. At the end Jill accepted Jack to be her boyfriend and they lived happily ever after.

This photo is was taken at the museum. we were at the graduation party, everyone had a lot of fun. After singing and dancing with the tour guides and friends we took a rest ,enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and look upon the beautiful sky. While every class read out their speech, our tour guide used our glowing stick to spell “202 love”. This picture means a lot to me because i had a lot of great memories that night, and the word reminds me of how united we are.

This photo is also taken at the museum, we were about to go to have dinner. In this photo we were trying to look cool, you can see we crossed our legs and lean on each other. I picked this photo because this is a picture of all the 202 boys. There aren’t many boys in our class, but i guess that is one of the reason that makes us so close. This picture reminds me of the great memories we had during the graduation trip.

This photo is taken at the Ferris wheel in the E-DA theme park. this photo is special because we are the last group to go on the Ferris wheel, many of our classmates missed the chance of getting on it, and that makes this experience even more special. On the Ferris wheel we talked about tons of things, we had a great time. The view from the Ferris wheel is spectacular, on the wheel we can see the whole E-DA theme park.

A Recipe of Love: A Dish for my Family

Halloween Peanut Butter and Toffee Candy Bark

This Halloween Candy Bark can be made up to a week ahead. Chill it in an airtight container and let it stand at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving. For step-by-step photos of this recipe, see How to Make Halloween Peanut Butter and Toffee Candy Bark.

Makes about 2 pounds or 30 two-inch pieces

• PREP: 20 minutes
• TOTAL: 50 minutes

Ingredients

• 1 pound bittersweet chocolate chips
• 3 2.1-ounce Butterfinger candy bars, cut into irregular 1-inch pieces
• 3 1.4-ounce Skor or Heath toffee candy bars, cut into irregular 3/4-inch pieces
• 8 0.55-ounce peanut butter cups, each cut into 8 wedges
• 1/4 cup honey-roasted peanuts
• 3 ounces high-quality white chocolate (such as Lindt or Perugina), chopped
• Reese’s Pieces and/or yellow and orange peanut M&M’s

Preparation

• Line baking sheet with foil. Stir chocolate chips in heavy medium saucepan over low heat until melted and warm (not hot) to touch. Pour chocolate onto foil; spread to 1/4-inch thickness (about 12×10-inch rectangle). Sprinkle with Butterfinger candy, toffee, peanut butter cups, and nuts, making sure all pieces touch melted chocolate to adhere.
• Put white chocolate in heavy small saucepan. Stir constantly over very low heat until chocolate is melted and warm (not hot) to touch. Remove from heat. Dip spoon into chocolate; wave from side to side over bark, creating zigzag lines. Scatter Reese’s Pieces and M&M’s over, making sure candy touches melted chocolate.
• Chill bark until firm, 30 minutes. Slide foil with candy onto work surface; peel off foil. Cut bark into irregular pieces.

Reasons why I chose this meal

    Since Halloween is coming later on this month, i thought why not make some special food that will correspond to the festival. Personally I love candy, and like me, my family is also a huge fan of all kinds of candies. Since we’re living in Taiwan, we don’t really have the chance to go out on the street and go tick-or-treating, but we can still have fun by making our own candies. Before i saw this wonderful sweet, I was still considering which one of the dish would be best for our family, but as soon as i saw the Peanut Butter And Toffee Candy Bark, I know that this is the one. It makes me hungry just by looking at it. I’m going to try and make it with my family this Halloween, and I hope it tastes as good as it looks.

Shakespeare project: Macbeth

Macbeth

Major Characters:

Duncan: The king of Scottland. He’s a good king.

Macbeth: The general, and the Glamis of Cawor.  Macbeth is a character with interesting personality. He’s basicly a good man but is troubled by his conscience and his ambition.

Lady Macbeth: Macbeth’s wife. She is the person that pushes Macbeth to pursue fame and wealth.

Banquo: The general of kings army. Banquo retains his morals and allegiances, but ends up dying.

The Three Witches: The three witches can see the future and gave Macbeth a prophecy and that is the key point of the story.

Summary:

Macbeth was a general of the king’s army. He met three withes in a return from war. The three witches told him a prophecy that he will become a  duke, and after that he will become the king. When Macbeth returned, he was named the duke of scottland, just like the prophecy said.  After that Macbeth became more ambitious and murderous and had the idea of murdering Duncan, the conflict between whether to trust the prophecy or to believe his own conscience was the main concern. Lady Macbeth is the person that pushes Macbeth, because of her Macbeth made up his mind. Macbeth killed Duncan and became the king of Scottland. Macbeth had everything he ever wanted but he lost one thing, and that is trust. He don’t believe anyone and is afraid of those who threaten his reign. He was guilty that he didn’t get these fame and wealth in a proper way, so he started to be afraid of those who are honest and loyal. The witch’s prophecy also said that Banquo’s descendants will become the king.Due to those reasons Macbeth and his wife decided to kill Banquo and his children, they murdered Banquo but Banquo’s children ran away.  The guiltness and fear turned Macbeth and Lady Macbeth crazy, and because of he is always afraid of those who threaten is reign, he became a tyrant and kills anyone who threaten the throne. At last the people couldn’t stand Macbeth’s behavior and revolted. Macbeth was killed in the revolt and Banquo’s son became the king.

TED Talk – Jok Church: A circle of caring

Summary:

This TED talk was given by Amererica’s famous cartoonis Jok Church. In this talk he shared some of his own experience in high school to describe the circle of carring to us. Not like most of us, Jok is a hommo sexual person, and was always bullied by other boys. that special experience of his own is part of the reason that makes him an interesting person. And is part of the reason why i recommend this talk.

Jok was the queer in his class, and was beaten up every week. Just as the time he was going to give up, his teacher saved him. She saved him by letting Jok go to the bathroom in theachers launge, she did it in secret,and did it for 3 years. After that Jok got out of town with 85 dollars in his pocket. He got to San Fransisco, and met his lover. One day he got a phone call in the middle of the night from his high school teacher, and she said  that she was sick and want’s to see him and his lover and to know each other as an adult. When Jok met his teacher, he knew that they have to get her to a hospital. They took care of her. Just as jok’s teacher got to know him, she passed away. And thats how the circle of carring complete.

why do i recommend the talk:

There are lots of different conflicts happening  in our world right now, and every argument is caused because of  people’s lack of carring. In this talk Jok Church talked about some important issues including school bullies, discrimination. There are whole lot of different issues in the world, and the only way to solve these problem is to let people know that it’s ok to be different, and to accept and embrace others’ differences. If people learn to care more about others’ feelings and help each other more often, then I believe theses awful experience that happened to Jok and other people will become fewer and fewer. I urge everyone to be more open-minded and embrace the differences between each other, then I am sure there will be a brighter future.

Reading Pie: Holes

The book “Holes” was written by Louis Sachar.

Do you believe in curse? well, i don’t. but i do know one guy that had been cursed, Stanley Yelnets.  Stanley is just an ordinary kid like us, but what his great-great-grandfather did in the past made him a bit different from us. The Yelnets family are cursed.  it all started with his great-great-grandfather’s stupid mistake that causes all the tragedy that happened to the Yelnets family.

Poor Stanley was accused by the crime that he didn’t did, and caused him been sent to the Camp Green Lake. There isn’t a lake at Camp Green Lake, there use to be one, but now it’s just a flat dry wasteland. Bad kids was sent to there to dig holes, they believe that digging holes will keep the bad boys bussy and stop them from breaking laws. At first Stanley had a rough time at the camp, but soon as he met Zero(the youngest kid in the camp) it gets better. Stanley and Zero soon became friends, and found out the secret behind the camp and the mystery between both Stanley and Zero’s family. At the end Camp Green Lake is no longer a place for children to dig holes, instead, it became center that helps kids to build their Characther.

The relationship between Stanley and Zero is part of the reason why i love this book so much. i like both of the characthers because they are different than the other guys in the camp. When you’re in an environment without love and caring it’s pretty hard to be a great and wonderful person, so i think the special connection between Zero and Stanley is that they both have a strong and righful mind. And the thought of helping each other made them know each other better, and it think that’s the reason why they can succeed on what they planned.

I had a lot of fun reading this book, not just because the story is interesting and they faced lots of difficult challenges, but because of it brings out the best in me. While reading the novel, i often question myself

 “What will i do when facing the problems that stanley and Zero had faced?Is there a better way to solve the problem?”

sometime the answer is Optimistic and full of hope, sometime it’s pessimistic and miserable. In the novle Zero is the character that’s hopefull and optimistic, and he makes me want to be more like him.

Holes is just a novel, but the problems they faced in the book might actually happen to us in real life, that’s why i had many thoughts after reading it 

 “Is there something we can do to make our law actually fair to every citizens?” 

“Does the councelers in reformatory really doing what they should be doing? or are they just treating the next generation like animals?” 

There are many problems that has to be solved in our society, and the only way to improve our society is by facing our own problems, if everyone does what they should be doing and point out the disadvantage of this world then i believe there will be a better world, and every tommorow is going to be a better day.
